Squid Game 3 release is just around the corner, and the OTT platform has dropped the first six minutes of the show to give a sneak peek of what’s coming. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk had earlier made it clear he has no intention to drag the series on, so the Lee Byung Hun and Lee Jung Jae-led show is all set to make its final run on Netflix, starting June 27. The opening picks up right where Season 2 ended: a group of men in red jumpsuits and masked faces arrive with a coffin, the same kind used when a player gets eliminated. But instead of a body, Seong Gi Hun, aka Player 456, is inside, as concerned and scared faces around him exchange tense glances, wondering if their hero has already died.
Squid Game 3’s first 6 minutes
Thankfully, Gi Hun is not dead, at least not yet. The scene is powerful in itself, showing the rebirth of Player 456, who had earlier challenged the Front Man after losing one of his closest friends. But things quickly turn eerie when he’s told that because of his heroic act, 35 players have already been eliminated (dead), including Jung Bae. Only 60 contestants remain. Gi Hun breaks down, confused, distressed, and even screams at the guards, begging them to kill him too. “Why did you not kill me?” he yells. “Why… why did you leave me?” He then grabs a gun from one of the guards and shouts, “Shoot me! Kill me too!” The guard announces that the prize money is now even higher. But clearly, so is the emotional toll. On the other side, a squad searching for the island grows increasingly tense over the disappearances. Regardless, we know Jun Ho will eventually land on the right island for In Ho. Meanwhile, the Front Man sits in his chair, smirking and sipping alcohol as he watches the misery unfold. Watch the clip here.

Why did Front Man bring Gi Hun back?
According to Lee Jung Jae, filming the Squid Game Season 3 scene where he rises from the coffin felt like entering a completely different universe, like someone who once fought the system in Season 2 but now finds himself stuck inside it again. “He has to go back to the competition, play the game again, and make choices again,” Jung Jae said. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk clarified that this isn’t about mercy. In the final season, Player 456’s decisions will be more dire, as the games turn even more tense and brutal. And this time, the Front Man won’t be holding back. “For Front Man, sending Gi Hun back to the game, rather than killing him—makes sense. He wants Gi-hun to really feel and understand the heavy price of his own mistakes,” Hwang told Tudum, adding, “Front Man wants Gi Hun to be driven to a state where he will finally give up his faith in humanity, and even his faith in himself. It’s important for the Front Man that Gi-hun returns to the game.”
Lee Byung Hun (Front Man) added that it’s not about life or death, it’s about breaking beliefs. He wants Gi Hun to eventually think like him. Both have won Squid Game before, but while Gi-hun still believes in humanity, Front Man sees the world as cold and broken. “Front Man wants to dismantle the noble belief Gi Hun holds onto. He believes that, eventually, Gi Hun will change too,” said Lee.The creators also confirmed that the Squid Game’s final season is going to be the most intense one yet. The games are more dangerous, the emotional stakes are through the roof, and the battle between Gi Hun and Front Man will be the central focus, while Im Si Wan and his unborn baby play a crucial role as well.
