During an interview with Filmfare, Aamir admitted that the love between him and his ex-wives, Reena and Kiran, hasn’t faded over the years, as their parting was marked by mutual respect and no animosity. Aamir was first married to Reena for over 16 years. They share two children – Junaid and Ira. He then married Kiran and they were also married for almost 17 years. They share one son named Azad. Aamir said, “I’ve been fortunate that the two women in my life, Reena and Kiran, have both been remarkable. Though we’re no longer married, the love and respect have never faded. That’s what’s kept us close even after parting ways. There was no bitterness with either.”

Aamir also revealed that during both divorces, he and his ex-wives chose to hire just one lawyer. “During both divorces, we didn’t even hire separate lawyers. Just one lawyer, one conversation. That was it. These weren’t battles, just two people parting as partners, not adversaries.”

He recalled marrying his first wife Reena Dutta when he was just 21, and she was 19. The couple remained married for 16 years before deciding to separate, but continue to share a strong bond. Similarly, he described his second marriage with Kiran Rao as one built on a deep and meaningful connection. Reflecting on both relationships, Aamir said, “But for a respectful, loving bond to continue after a marriage ends, both people have to want that. Reena is gracious, Kiran is gracious and I’ve tried to be the same.”

Aamir added that in times of crisis, it’s often his ex-wives who come forward to help him. Sharing an instance, he said, “When Reena’s father was unwell and refused treatment, she called me. I convinced him to get help for his cancer. You can’t fake that kind of trust. At Ira’s wedding, seeing us all together, I realised how rare this is.”

He also revealed that therapy over the past few years has helped him become more self-aware and emotionally balanced. He acknowledged that his current girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, is experiencing a more grounded version of him. “Gauri is meeting a different Aamir now, a more healed version. A little more at ease. Hopefully, a little better.” Aamir opened up about his relationship with Gauri on his 60th birthday in March.
