They say you never really know where and how you are going to find true love in your life, and that is often accompanied by the old saying, ‘When you know, you know.’ Something similar happened with actor Shama Sikander when she met her now-husband, James Milliron. The businessman, who was just a mutual friend, was quick to express his feelings to the actor, but even though the couple fast-tracked through the nascent stages of a relationship, it took them some time to convince each other’s parents about this union.
While appearing on Hauterrfly’s YouTube channel, Shama shared how everything was very rapid in the beginning, and the two went from being complete strangers to dating each other in a very short period of time. She said, “We met through another friend of ours, and I had no idea that I was about to meet the love of my life. We all went for dinner, then clubbing, and I sort of felt this magnetic pull, which was weird because I wasn’t even attracted to him. Later I took his number and told him to text me when he reaches home, and he actually got in an accident.” To which, James added, “If you’re meeting a girl for the first time, I highly recommend getting into an accident; it just keeps the conversation going.”

They met the next day at an impromptu get-together that James Milliron had organised just to be able to meet Shama Sikander, and then they went out for a coffee date the very next day. “He invited me to have some coffee the next day, and we sat in the coffee shop for around 6 hours, and we really connected that day. By the time the next day came around, he told me he loved me, and I thought it was really quick, but it happened,” said Shama.
‘The conversations with Shama Sikander’s mother were mostly about money’
James shared how his initial interactions with Shama’s mother were very confusing and mostly about money. He said, “Our initial conversations were absolutely hilarious because I didn’t know any Hindi, and she didn’t know much of English. We were figuring out what we were discussing, and the conversations were mostly about money. That was the first thing she asked me.” Shama repeated the question her mother asked James, which was, “Meri beti ke parlour ka kharcha utha paaoge? (Will you be able to afford her parlour bill?)”
At the same time, Shama Sikander was also facing some difficulties trying to get James Milliron’s father to accept her because of a comment she made about religion during a casual discussion. “I don’t know what I said which made him think that I was anti-religion or something. However, one day he got into a terrible accident, and while he was in the hospital, I went with James and hid behind the curtain in the room. He called me to him, held my hand and introduced me to the nurse as his daughter-in-law, and we weren’t even married yet.”
Shama Sikander and James Milliron met each other in 2015 and got married in 2022.
