Seeing her parents — Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie Kapoor — part ways wasn’t easy for Anshula Kapoor. In a recent interaction, Anshula admitted that after her parents’ divorce, she found herself feeling like a burden on both of them. While she was grappling with her own emotions at that time, her mother was also struggling with the separation and blamed herself.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Anshula shared, “I told my mom, ‘I feel like a burden or I am a burden to the relationship that you and Dad had.’ I think my mother figured it out without me having to say it as I was 8-9 years old at that time. I blamed myself at that time. My mother had to get me out of this loop and get me out of this thought process because there was no truth to it.” Anshula admitted that she felt guilty when her mom sent her to college in New York despite her mother reassuring her otherwise.
While Anshula was struggling after her parents’ divorce, Mona had her own battle. Right after parting ways with Mona, Boney Kapoor tied the knot with actor Sridevi. Mona blamed herself for her divorce from Boney. Anshula mentioned the same in the interview and said, “Mom had had a conversation with my father. She had told him that she holds herself responsible for their separation and Dad, in his own way, had tried to address this conversation with me.”
During the same conversation, Anshula also admitted that while she was blaming herself for her parents’ divorce, things got worse for her after her stepsister and actor Janhvi Kapoor was born. She said, “As a 6-year-old I thought before me, their life was all hunky dory and I came to their life and suddenly they don’t belong together. I thought, maybe, I was not a good enough daughter. I think that became more apparent after—and I know it sounds horrible—Jaanu (Janhvi Kapoor) was born because I was like maybe, something was wrong with me.”
However, Anshula clarified that she doesn’t feel like that anymore and shares a good bond with both her half-sisters, Khushi Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor.
