At any given point in time several hundred shows keep revolving in the Indian television sphere, and ever since the year 2000, Kaun Banega Crorepati has been the constant leader among all those. Sony has just announced that the legendary quiz show is returning with a brand new season, and Amitabh Bachchan is all set to pose the toughest questions of all to whoever dares to sit on the hot seat. The channel announced the new season with a playful ad, where we see Big B take inspiration from one of his most iconic characters.
The announcement video begins with a rich and pompous man scolding a door-to-door salesman for seemingly ruining his ‘imported from London’ carpet. As the man continues his onslaught on the guy, the salesman has finally had enough and decides to impart some knowledge. He tells the rich man about the fiber used in his carpet and its anti-dust capabilities, hence no harm and no foul. He leaves after he gives him some petty cash for his throat, which might need some tending to after all that screaming. Bachchan then enters the frame and says, “Jaha akal hai, waha akad hai (Where there is wisdom, there is confidence).”
Amitabh Bachchan then starts to talk about the new season, but then he feels that something is off and quickly poses himself on the chair like his character Vijay from the film Agneepath. He says, “11 August se appointment hai apna, kya bolta hai? Appointment. English bolta hai.” The stalwart pays homage to one of his most beloved characters, whose dialogues, such as the iconic Agneepath speech, are still fresh in people’s minds.
Kaun Banega Crorepati started back in 2000, when Amitabh was still recovering from major financial problems. Even though Shah Rukh Khan took the mantle as host for one single season, the megastar quickly returned to the show and has been the host ever since. The new season will premiere on August 11 and will be running on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 9 pm.
