Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Box Office Collection Day 1: Vikrant Massey must have hoped for some of his 12th Fail goodwill to rub off on his latest film, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, but the new movie started its theatrical run with one of the worst opening-day hauls of this year. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 35 lakh nett. This is definitely not the start to her acting career that debutante Shanaya Kapoor would’ve wanted.
The Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Mere Husband Ki Biwi made Rs 1.5 crore on its first day, while Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa earned Rs 1.15 crore. Azaad, which starred newcomers Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgn, also made Rs 1.5 crore. Massey, who just a few months ago had announced his retirement from the film industry, went back on his decision and decided to work on this film. Shanaya, the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, pivoted to this film after her original debut project, Bedhadak, was shelved.
The occupancy rates for Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan averaged out at 9.92%, with the morning and afternoon shows struggling, bringing in rates of 5.87% and 9.43%, and the evening and night shows achieving 8.62% and 15.77%. Maheep seemed thoroughly excited for her daughter’s big debut as she posted childhood pictures of her and expressed the joy she was feeling due to the movie. Massey’s last two films were Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail (Rs 56.38 cr) and Dheeraj Sarna’s The Sabarmati Report (Rs 34.27 cr).
The film is currently competing with Superman and Maalik, among a few others. The two films have earned Rs 7 crore and Rs 3.35 crore, respectively. Things need to swiftly turn around for director Santosh Singh’s romantic drama, or it will soon start bleeding shows, further decreasing its chance of posting decent numbers.
