Actor Ronit Roy, who has been candid about his rocky career and financial struggles, has worked his way up the film and television industry, and is determined to help his children get a better life than he had. In a recent interview, he talked about his freedom-based approach regarding fatherhood, and what he thinks of his children’s future in Bollywood. On the Hindi Rush podcast, Ronit talked about his children’s aspirations in life and how he plans to support them in their journey to adulthood.
He said, “I am going to be very straightforward about this: an actor’s son naturally wants to become an actor. My daughter Aador is currently studying at USC, and that’s why she is less in the public eye, and Agasthya is here. I have never told them what they should do with their career or life. I keep telling them that I only have two projects in my life, and that’s them.”
Talking about his son, Ronit admitted that even though parents want the best for their child, they can’t control everything. He continued, “As a father, there is only so much you can do or control. I haven’t written their destiny, and all a father can do is support their children in their journey and nurture them throughout the journey. Agasthya is a solid kid, and he is very determined about targets he sets for himself.”
He also stated that Agasytha has a tendency to take everything at face value, and that he should be prepared for the real world. “I am not saying this because he is my son, but he is too bhola (innocent) for this world. He is like me in certain ways and tends to take things at face value; he doesn’t doubt people or their intentions. Our interests are the same; we both like films and martial arts, and I want him to have a strong mentality like a fighter while keeping his innocence intact.” Ronit added that once his son has achieved that mentality, he is free to study, learn from and assist people in the industry, so that he knows what he is getting into and can experience it firsthand.
Ronit’s brother Rohit Roy is also an established actor, and his daughter Kiara is currently studying at Brown University. When asked about Kiara’s chances in Bollywood, Rohit also replied in the affirmative and said that while Kiara is currently focused on her studies, there is no reason why she can’t jump into acting right after that. Rohit was very clear that he would want Kiara to work with someone outside the family, as he thinks that actors should never direct their own children.
