R Madhavan is all set to mark his return to the romance genre with the Netflix film, Aap Jaisa Koi opposite Fatima Sana Shaikh. On Wednesday, the makers of the film shared the trailer of the romantic drama, introducing R Madhavan as a 42-year-old Shrirenu Tripathi in search of a companion and Fatima as the feisty 32-year-old Madhu Bose teaching him “Barabari Wala Pyaar”.
The trailer starts with Shrirenu Tripathi, longing for companionship and closeness, waiting to meet a girl for marriage. His worried sister-in-law says, “Why is your age 42 in your biodata? I told you to write 39.” The scene cuts to Madhavan curiously asking, “Has she seen my picture? Does she know what I do?” A voice in the background says, “Yes, she has. And she is a teacher too. She is 32, single, and has never married before.”
This meeting changes Shrirenu’s life who falls for Madhu with them soon getting engaged and happily enjoying each other’s company until Shrirenu’s family objects Madhu’s lifestyle. “Modern girls divide their maternal home as well as in-laws.” They find issues in women drinking, playing cards and discussing politics giving a glimpse of the mindset of Shrirenu’s orthodox family.
Things change when Shrirenu too speaks the same language as he says, “Sab kuch allow karenge lekin limit mein (We will allow you everything but within limits),” irking Madhu, who asks, “Why should you decide my limit?”
Their story takes a dramatic turn when nothing works between them and they decide to cancel their wedding.
The film is directed by Meenakshi Sundareshwar fame Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. Apart from Madhavan and Fatima, the film also stars Ayesha Raza, Manish Chaudhari and Namit Das in supporting roles. The film will premiere on July 11.
