Actor Anil Kapoor and his director-producer brother, Boney Kapoor, recently performed the last rites of their late mother, Nirmal Kapoor, by immersing her ashes in the sacred waters of the river Ganga.

Anil Kapoor took to his social media to share pictures and he expressed his ‘grief and healing’. The Kapoor brothers immersed their mother’s ashes in the spot where they had immersed their father’s ashes, nearly a decade ago. Sharing the photos, Anil wrote, “Grief and Healing…Today we immersed Ma’s ashes in the Ganga, in the same place where we had laid Dad to rest nearly a decade ago…”
He added, “With the grief came a quiet sense of peace, Like Ma and Dad are finally back together. With each other, home at last🙏.”
The pictures show both Anil and Boney Kapoor, dressed in white, as they performed puja for their mother. The duo were seen on the riverbank as they paid their final respects.

Earlier on Wednesday, they went to meet Swami Chidanand Saraswati at Rishikesh’s Parmarth Niketan Ashram to perform prayers for their mother. For the unversed, the senior most member of the Kapoor family, Nirmal Kapoor, passed away on May 2, 2025, at the age of 90. She died due to age-related illness at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. A few days after his mother’s death, Anil had shared a post on social media that read, “The love pouring in from all walks of life has been overwhelming. I truly don’t have the words to express how deeply grateful we are.”
“My mother touched so many lives, not just directly but through the people she nurtured, supported, and loved. She was one of those remarkable women who never stood in the spotlight but whose strength held everyone together. A silent pillar, always smiling, always caring, always bringing warmth to those around her,” he added.
Anil wrote further, “She was the glue that kept our family close, from our children to our grandchildren, and even our extended family and friends. Her love reached far and wide, and it’s clear from the outpouring of messages and affection that she made a lasting impact on so many hearts. A heartfelt thank you to everyone, especially from the film fraternity, for your kind words, prayers, and love. We’re truly humbled and grateful.”
