Actor couple Kajol and Ajay Devgn may have contrasting personalities, but they continue to captivate audiences with their on-screen and off-screen chemistry. The duo first worked together in the 1995 action thriller Hulchul and have since experienced many ups and downs in their professional journeys. In a recent interview, Kajol spoke about Ajay’s filmography, claiming he is the only actor who has excelled in every genre. She also reflected on the major setback he faced after the box office failure of his 2000 home production Raju Chacha.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Kajol, who married Ajay Devgn in 1999, playfully remarked that his career took off after their marriage. “See, his career changed after he got married to me. Achi tarah se seekha ke nikaala hai maine unko,” she quipped.
However, Kajol gave him credit for excelling in every film genre. “Hats off to him. I feel that he is the only actor who has made a success out of every genre that he has picked. Whether it was comedy, action, romance and drama, he has done a very successful thing in all three, and directing for that matter. Whatever he has chosen to do, he has done extremely well.”

Picking her most favourite movie out of Ajay Devgn’s filmography, Kajol said, “I love Company, it is in my top favourites. Best film for me was actually Legend Of Bhagat Singh. It was amazing. I loved it. Ek kirdaar jo aise portray kia hai. Every bit of him was Bhagat Singh in that film.”
Ajay Devgn’s production house, Devgn Films, which recently backed Shaitaan and Maa, once faced a major setback with the box office failure of Raju Chacha in 2000. At the time, the film was reportedly one of the most expensive Indian productions, but it failed to perform commercially, resulting in significant financial losses. Despite this, the company went on to produce and distribute several successful films, including Son of Sardaar (2012).
Talking about the hiccup, Kajol said, “It was really horrible. He was very upset that it didn’t do well. It took him a long time to feel better, that was a big blow to him. But, I have to give him credit that he still continued to produce films after that. Most people give up completely after such a big loss, they don’t take that risk again. He is doing it till today. Kudos to him as a producer to still want to give a quality product at the end of the day.”
