Ajay Devgn and Kajol are among the most popular Bollywood couples, and have often spoken about the secret to their long and successful marriage. They first met in 1995, and their love blossoming on the sets of their 1997 film Ishq. They tied the knot in 1999. However, in real life, the couple maintain a friend-like bond and don’t have traditional ‘date nights’. This, Kajol said in a new interview, could be the secret to their marriage.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Kajol shared that their opposite energies is the biggest reason they’ve stayed together. “Ajay and I are completely different otherwise hum logo ko itne saal nahi lagte (it wouldn’t have taken us so long), we would have separated long before.” Ajay, who is known as a man of few words, has been married to Kajol for 26 years. Sharing how she matches her energy with him, Kajol said, “I say this quite often that the secret to happy marriage is partial deafness and selective amnesia. You really need to forget certain things about your partner and sometimes unhearing things they said. It is very important.”

She added, “We don’t have date nights and all that. Hum yeh sab nahi karte hai (We don’t do all this). We mostly have family time because it is very rare that we spend time at home together. Either he is working or travelling or I am working or travelling. So whenever we find some time, we try and stay at home with everybody else. No date nights as such.”
When asked if their bonding is more friend-like than romantic, Kajol said, “Kitne saal hogaye shadi ke (We have been married for too long), you can’t expect me to blush when I am talking about him.” Previously, talking to Instant Bollywood, Kajol shared how she deals with Ajay’s obsession with work and said, “Sometimes I feel like, ‘Acha hua 40 din ka outdoor hai‘, and sometimes I feel like, ‘Damn, you should have been here for this’. I have got used to it now. He is very passionate about his work.” Kajol and Ajay Devgn are parents to a daughter, Nysa and son Yug.
