Kareena Kapoor’s fallout with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is widely known. However, in a conversation with Vicky Kaushal, Kareena was seen using the controversy in a lighter note and showing admiration for the filmmaker. “You are so lucky to be with THE Sanjay Leela Bhansali,” said Bebo.
Both the stars sat down for a one-on-one conversation as part of The Hollywood Reporter’s special show Take 2. While speaking to Vicky, Kareena said, “I want to see you in Bhansali. He is of course THE Sanjay Leela Bhansali.” She then quipped, “Love and War is actually me and Sanjay.” This surprised Vicky, who quickly reacted, “Really?” Kareena gave another quirky reply, “Yeah. You can tell him that. He will understand. We have Love and War.”

A curious Vicky Kaushal then asked, “So right now, is it love or war?” Kareena Kapoor smiled as she said, “We are always like that. But I feel you are really lucky at this. What a cast, what a movie it is going to be. I want to see you in a love story.”
Vicky, who confirmed that Love & War is indeed a love story, shared his working experience with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, creating an evident interest in Kareena, who often talks about collaborating with good filmmakers.
“What I am enjoying is that it is genuinely a learning experience to just be around him while he is making a film. He is like a child who is curious about everything and wanting to explore and go deeper and explore more with the actors, material, camera, set. He is always thinking what new and more can he add to his project to make it more cinematic,” said Vicky.
Listening to this, Kareena Kapoor shared, “How amazing to be around that and lucky to be around good cinema.” Vicky agreed and added, “He keeps exploring a scene until the last shot and always comes up with a new idea. It makes you wonder as an actor that when he can keep thinking and exploring, why did you stop to think?”

This lit up Kareena, as she said, “Three of the best actors of the generation are in the film.” To which, Vicky replied, “They are outstanding. But, more than that what I love about Ranbir and Alia is that they are both amazing and incredible human beings and that makes it all fun, easy and wholesome.”
What happened between Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have a history since the days of Devdas when the filmmaker selected Aishwarya Rai over Kareena in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. This led to Kareena bad-mouthing him in the media.
In a 2002 interview with Filmfare, Kareena Kapoor said, “What he did to me was wrong. He screen-tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount, then took someone else. That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career.”
However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali denied the incident and shared with Filmfare, “She came to my house with Neeta Lulla and said she wanted to work with me… I told her that I hadn’t seen her work and that before casting her, I needed to see what she was capable of. We fixed up a photo-shoot with the right costumes. Since Babitaji and Karisma Kapoor were also at the shoot, I made it clear to all of them that the shoot wasn’t a confirmation that I would cast Kareena. They were okay with that at the time. After going through the photographs, I told Kareena that I felt Aishwarya Rai was fabulous and perfect for Paro; she has the aristocratic looks I required. Kareena didn’t say a word then but some days later I found her lashing out at me in print. She accused me of backing out after having given her the signing amount and contract. Believe me, this is not true.”
