On Tuesday, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi‘s latest season clocked in one week. And while the show started on a great note, providing old fans with nostalgia, from the second episode onwards, the narrative entered a melodramatic zone. The Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi revival is giving the audience two different narratives. One is headlined by Tulsi Virani, and the other is led by Vrinda Ghokale.

In the last few episodes of the show, we saw that during Mihir and Tulsi’s wedding anniversary celebrations, their Gen-Z son Angad Virani (played by Rohit Suchanti) got involved in an accident. Angad went to the police station to report the accident. He then called Tulsi to the police station. Mihir and Tulsi’s daughter, Pari (played by Shagun Sharma), also confessed to her that she loves someone else after finding out that Mihir had invited a boy to the party to meet her. In an intense discussion, it was also revealed that the three Gen-Z kids are actually Tulsi’s dead sister Kesar’s children.

Later, Tulsi told Mihir about Pari’s boyfriend, and Mihir reprimanded her for not bringing up the children properly. He rushed towards Pari in anger to confront her, but became emotional after laying eyes on her, and accepted her decision. He asked her to call the boy home. But the next day, Angad got arrested after the police claimed that he hit someone who is in a serious condition in the hospital. Angad was taken to jail, and while Mihir and Hemant (played by Shakti Anand) tried to bail him out, Tulsi advised against it, saying that he should face the repercussions of what he has done.

That’s when the show introduced some new characters, one of whom is a traffic police constable living in a chawl but making an honest living. However, the constable’s wife and mother are corrupted by greed and want him to compromise on his ethics as well. The traffic constable also has a sister, Vrinda Gokhale (played by Tanisha Mehta). Vrinda is a righteous girl who is still studying and helping the family to make ends meet. One day, a man comes to the traffic constable’s home and asks him to destroy incriminating CCTV footage in return for Rs 4 lakh. The constable refuses the bribe.

However, he is forced to take the bribe later on, after his mother fakes an accident. Just when the constable decides to destroy the evidence and accept the bribe, Vrinda sees the footage and learns that Angad is innocent. Meanwhile, Tulsi is feeling guilty back home. Gayatri (played by Kamalika Guha Thakurta) has been adding fuel to the fire occasionally by taunting Tulsi about her upbringing.

After learning about the truth, Vrinda somehow contacts Tulsi and informs her that her son Angad is indeed innocent. However, by then, Angad’s arrest had gotten serious media attention and has damaged the family’s reputation. The Viranis become a topic of gossip, the share prices of their company have dropped, and Pari is dumped by the guy she was seeing. To add to their problems, Angad is denied bail because of all the attention on the case. But Tulsi decides to take charge; she finds out Vrinda’s address and decides to meet her. However, when she meets Vrinda, she’s hit with a rude shock. Vrinda refuses to get involved.

Later, Tulsi and Mihir have an emotional breakdown the news reports that Angad is innocent. His friend confesses that he was the one driving the car, but Angad took the blame on himself because the friend had a job interview in the US. Seeing Angad suffer, the friend surrendered himself to the police. Angad finally returns home. Upon his arrival, Gayatri taunts him and says that his mother didn’t trust him when everyone else did. In response, Tulsi asks that Angad punish her, but he refuses. While normalcy is restored in the Virani household, Pari agrees to meet the boy Mihir had chosen for her. On the other side, Vrinda contacts Tulsi, apologising for her mistake and promising to help her with the evidence that would prove Angad’s friend innocent.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi airs on Star Plus and Jio Hotstar from Monday to Sunday at 10:30 pm.
