Metro… In Dino box office journey and occupancy
The multi-starrer began its box office journey by raking in Rs 3 crore on Friday. Over the weekend, the film saw a 71 percent increase in collections as it earned Rs 6 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday. However, come Monday, the film’s earnings dropped by over 65 percent, minting Rs 2.5 crore. Since then, the film has maintained similar momentum, earning Rs 3 crore on Tuesday and Rs 2.19 crore on Wednesday.
Metro… In Dino had an overall 14.59% Hindi occupancy, with the highest footfall of 18.61 percent recorded during night shows. This was followed by 16.33 percent occupancy in the evening shows and 15.06 percent in the afternoon shows.
Competition from Brad Pitt’s F1, Jurassic World Rebirth and Sitaare Zameen Par
Anurag Basu’s film has managed to woo urban audiences with positive word-of-mouth and favourable reviews from critics. The film has held its own despite stiff competition from big-ticket Hollywood releases like Jurassic World Rebirth and F1: The Movie.
Jurassic World Rebirth, which released on the same day as Metro… In Dino, has collected Rs 50.95 crore in six days — more than double Metro… In Dino’s Rs 24.44 crore. Brad Pitt’s F1, currently in its second week at the Indian box office, has already earned Rs 58.38 crore.
Not just the two Hollywood films, Metro… In Dino is also facing competition from Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which is still going strong in its third week. On its 20th day, the film minted Rs 1.25 crore and has amassed a total of Rs 153.25 crore in the domestic market to date.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also pointed out how Metro… In Dino’s weekend performance was impacted by these blockbuster films. However, he emphasised that the film needs to perform better during the weekdays to maintain a solid box office run. He wrote, “#MetroInDino shows encouraging trends over the weekend, clearly indicating that its target audience — urban centres — has responded positively to the film… However, the weekend total remains on the lower side.” He added, “All eyes are now on the weekday trends – #MetroInDino needs to hold steady at Friday levels [or thereabouts] to register a healthy total.”
