Priyanka Chopra, now a global icon with a career that spans Hindi cinema and international projects, revealed in an old interview that her mother, Madhu Chopra, was the real starstruck fan in the family. Reflecting on her early days in Bollywood, Priyanka shared a heartwarming and humorous glimpse into her mother’s reactions to some of the big names she encountered during her career.
Recalling one of her first films in Hindi cinema, she said, “My mom was most excited about this when I became an actor. One of my first movies in Indian cinema, Hindi movies, had this actor called Kabir Bedi, and my mom was a big fan of his. He’s a very famous Indian actor. She met him and was completely freaking out. I was like, ‘Mommy, he’s my co-actor. We have to be professional now.’”
Her anecdotes didn’t stop there. Priyanka Chopra also recounted an unforgettable moment at a Bruce Springsteen concert during her brief foray into the music industry: “Then I was at a Bruce Springsteen concert. I was doing music for a hot second, it lasted four singles, don’t worry, and I met Bruce Springsteen. My mom made sure I didn’t wash my hands after dinner until I shook her hand. Oh my god. She was like, ‘You have to shake my hand too. You can’t not do that!’” The fan moments kept piling up. David Hasselhoff was next on the list, and he left quite the impression, on her mother. “And then David Hasselhoff was hilarious. My mom still wears that T-shirt at night, it says ‘Hassel the Hoff’. He very sweetly brought it for her. She still wears it.”

But perhaps the most memorable moment came at a 50 Cent concert in Mumbai. “And 50 Cent was performing, she loves 50! I don’t even have a picture of it, but he was performing in Mumbai and she was like, ‘We have to go to that show. You have to take me. I love that show!’ And I was like, ‘I got you, girl. I’ll get you front row, Mom.’ And we were, like, in between, the audience and the stage. So 50 was right in front of us. At some point, you know, shirts start coming off, and like, clothes start coming off, and he takes off his sweaty skull cap and throws it in my direction. And my mom goes… she caught it! She caught it. Kept it. It’s still in her closet.”
