Priyanka Chopra, who has been promoting her Hollywood film Heads of State, recently opened up about her glamorous wedding with Nick Jonas and recalled the best moments from her bridal shower in New York City. Priyanka shared that it was very important to her to honour both their cultures at their two weddings; and she did this by wearing parts of her mother and mother-in-law’s wedding outfits during the celebrations.
In a chat with Vogue, Priyanka shared that marrying Nick was the “best decision” of her life. “Nick is not someone I expected I would end up with but you know, he is exactly tailor-made for me. That only happened because I had myself open to the universe,” she said. In the same video, Priyanka also spoke about the first time she attended the Met Gala with Nick in 2017. “We were just supposed to walk the carpet and we were supposed to go our separate ways. I remember turning around and I was just alone in a room full of people that I didn’t know and I remember feeling like my feet were stuck to the ground. I didn’t know which direction to go in and all I remember is Nick just calling out my name and handing me his hand and just pulling men in , and he was like, ‘this way’, and after that we spent the whole night together,” she shared.
Priyanka said that Ralph Lauren himself designed her wedding dress; it was only the fourth one that he had designed in his career. Her other wedding outfit was created by Sabyasachi, and she was very specific about the shade of red she wanted for the lehenga. “I wanted the red to be the colour of sindoor which is the vermillion that Indian women wear when they get married,” she said.
She added, “We always knew we wanted to honour both our cultures. That was important to both of us. I wanted a part of my mom and my mother-in-law in both of my dresses so my mother-in-law’s wedding veil was our pillow on which our ring came, I still have that pillow. And my mother’s wedding saree was stitched on to my lehenga so it was really intentional. It was a perfect day.”
Priyanka and Nick got married in December 2018. They welcomed their daughter Malti Marie in 2022.
