TV actor Shweta Tiwari’s ex-husband Raja Chaudhary recently opened up about his troubled past, the allegations of domestic violence against him, and his long-standing battle with alcoholism. He also shared how the media portrayed him as a villain, largely because Shweta was a television actor who was beloved by the audience.

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Raja refuted all allegations of domestic violence against him. He said, “Koe physical violence hua nahi (There was no physical violence). 1-2 times I have broken the door of her house. But that was because of their bewakoofi, they wanted me to stand outside the house and not come inside. I would have just spoken and gone on my own, but they had to provoke me. They would slam the door and refuse to meet me. Jaat khopdi satak jaati hai kai bar, so I broke the door. Police came and all, but these are false stories.”

Talking about how he was portrayed in the media during his divorce battle with Shweta Tiwari, Raja Chaudhary said, “I was presented badly. The headline would read, ‘Shweta Tiwari’s husband beat her’, ‘Shweta Tiwari’s husband got arrested.’ So they made her a heroine and me a villain. And she was famous at that time, she was audiences’ favourite, she was doing TV shows, so I was always seen as a villain.”

Raja acknowledged that being under the influence of alcohol at the time may have prevented his side of the story from reaching the public in a coherent manner. He said, “This is possible. A drink person won’t speak coherently. You can’t think of anything apart from alcohol. It is a kind of depression. But the people who say that I was mostly drunk weren’t with me the whole day so how can they say that. They only encountered with me when I was drunk.”

When asked about creating a ruckus at parties while drunk, Raja Chaudhary admitted to it and said, “That’s what alcohol does to you. You become a different person. I had understood that alcoholism is my problem and I was finding trouble in finding ways to get out of it. So blame it on alcohol and not on me.”

Raja also shared that he had been “trying to quit alcohol” and “have been sober for the last two years.” He elaborated on the challenges he faced while trying to overcome his addiction. “I had struggled a lot. I had been in rehab for 4-8 months. I have stayed at naturopathy centres. I have joined meditation centres. Thanks to pickelball, I started playing it for last two years, and that it is the reason, I am so good. Sports has changed my life,” he said.
