Ranbir Kapoor is off to a vacation with wife Alia Bhatt and mother Neetu Kapoor a day after wrapping the shoot of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, which is slated to release in cinemas on Diwali next year. Visuals of the film’s wrap from the set surfaced on social media on Monday evening.

In a video from the set, Ranbir, who plays Lord Rama in the film, is seen tightly hugging Ravi Dubey, who essays Rama’s younger, loyal brother Lakshman in the epic. They also cut a cake to mark the occasion. Ranbir, along with Tiwari, are seen giving heartfelt speeches in front of the cast and crew, which aren’t exactly audible or comprehensible in the videos from the sets doing the rounds on social media.

The wrap on the filming of the first part comes days before the makers are set to unveil “the first official glimpse” into the Ramayana franchise on an IMAX screen in Mumbai on Thursday, July 3. It’s being hailed as a “landmark cinematic event that sets the stage for one of the biggest films ever made,” as per the official invite for the event.

Since Ranbir was seen leaving the city with his family at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday morning, it’s unlikely he’ll be present for the occasion. Additionally, Kannada star Yash, who serves as a co-producer as well as plays the chief antagonist Ravana in the franchise, has also left for a vacation with his family to the US. So even he’s unlikely to make it to the launch event in Mumbai on Thursday.

Ramayana will be released in two parts on the festival of Diwali in 2026 and 2027 respectively. Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios is producing the film. South star Sai Pallavi will be seen essaying the role of Sita opposite Ranbir’s Rama. “Just to be a part of that story, I am so humbled to essay Rama’s role. It’s a dream for me. It’s a film that has everything. It teaches what Indian culture is about — family and husband-wife dynamics. I’m very excited about that,” Ranbir had said earlier about essaying the protagonist.

“And to tell it to this (story) to a new generation with the kind of technology that we have, it’s a very exciting and gratifying opportunity for me as an actor,” he’d added. Ramayana also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as Dashratha, and Kunal Kapoor as Indra. Interestingly, Govil earlier played Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s epic TV show Ramayan.

Along with Ramayana, Ranbir will also be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic drama Love & War alongside Alia and Vicky Kaushal, which is also slated to release in cinemas next year. He will also reprise his role of Rannvijay Singh in Animal Park, the sequel to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 blockbuster Animal.
