While fans are still going gaga over the first glimpse of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, which was released last week and received overwhelmingly great reactions, actress Indira Krishnan, who is playing the role of Kaushalya in the epic, recently opened up in an interview with NDTV about her experience working with Ranbir Kapoor, not just as a fellow actor, but as a remarkably grounded and devoted father.
“Ranbir is my favourite co-star, hands down,” she said, describing how the actor consistently went out of his way to ensure her comfort on set. From pulling up a chair to engaging in thoughtful conversations, Ranbir’s humility and warmth stood out. “I’ve never seen a star of his stature treat people the way he does,” she added. And it wasn’t only his professionalism that struck her. It was the way he spoke about his daughter, Raha, with disarming honesty and affection. “He told me Raha is his dal chawal. The simplicity and love with which he talks about his daughter, it stayed with me,” she recalled.

Ranbir’s curiosity extended beyond their work. He was eager to gather parenting insights and would frequently ask Indira about her son’s childhood books, hoping to find something special for Raha. “Every day he would remind me, ‘Ma’am, did you get the books for Raha?’” she said with a smile. His connection with her son, Anirudh, was equally genuine. The two spent time in Ranbir’s vanity van, chatting for hours, discussing school board exams, parenting philosophies, and childhood routines. Ranbir, she said, was always seeking advice on how to raise his daughter with care and thoughtfulness.
One moment, in particular, left a lasting impression. “I asked him what happened, and he said, ‘There was a race, Indira ji… I ran for Raha. And I came first.’” Krishnan recounted, referring to a day Kapoor arrived on set nursing a limp. “He’d pulled a muscle but still showed up to work like nothing happened. That’s Ranbir. A father before anything else.”
