There seems to be no stopping Saiyaara, the Mohit Suri-directed romantic musical that has catapulted debutants Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday into overnight stardom. As the film continues to soar at the box office, it crossed a significant milestone on Monday, grossing Rs 507 crore worldwide in just 18 days, making it one of the fastest entries into the Rs 500 crore club in recent memory.
With this, Saiyaara has become Mohit Suri’s first film to enter the Rs 500 crore club, and Ahaan and Aneet are now the first debutants in Indian cinema history to headline a film that has achieved this benchmark. Additionally, the film has officially become the highest-grossing love story in the history of Indian cinema, overtaking Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh, which had a lifetime collection of Rs 368 crore.
According to a press release issued by Yash Raj Films, in its 18-day run, Saiyaara has grossed Rs 376 crore at the domestic box office, with an additional Rs 131 crore from overseas markets, bringing its total to Rs 507 crore. It is now the second-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, behind Chhaava, which has earned Rs 807.91 crore worldwide.

With this, Saiyaara has also surpassed the lifetime earnings of previous YRF blockbusters such as Hrithik Roshan’s War (Rs 471 crore) and Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 (Rs 464 crore). It has even outperformed Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, which earned Rs 454 crore globally. The film is just Rs 36 crore shy of crossing Pathaan’s worldwide collections. The film’s unexpected dominance has sent shockwaves across the industry. From its strong opening day numbers to its consistent performance over the weeks, Saiyaara has defied expectations, especially from industry insiders who initially underestimated its potential.
Veteran film journalist Komal Nahta recently shared an anecdote during a chat with YouTuber Faridoon Shahryar that revealed the kind of impact Saiyaara is having within Bollywood circles. He said, “Even an established star can become insecure because of a newcomer. They have to remember that they were also newcomers once upon a time; they shouldn’t be nervous, there’s enough space for everyone. I was at Bhushan Kumar’s party, and one of his stars asked me about Saiyaara. I told him that it’s a blockbuster. He got up and left.”
Multiple factors have contributed to the film’s extraordinary success. One of the key elements has been the return of a pure, intense, old-school romantic drama, a genre the current generation has been longing for. The fresh pairing of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has strongly resonated with audiences. Notably, producer Aditya Chopra’s decision to keep the lead pair away from media exposure before the film’s release played a critical role in building intrigue and relatability, allowing viewers to discover them for the first time on the big screen.
Reacting to the film’s historic success, Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani said in a statement, “The success of Saiyaara, a pure love story, once again proves that the romance genre is probably the one to get most love from the audience if we give them the right film to cherish and endorse. We are humbled with this success story, and it fuels us to look for the next film that can break out and make India proud globally.”
