Although Sara Ali Khan has often spoken about her close bond with her mother, veteran actor Amrita Singh, there was a time in her teenage years when she didn’t tell her mom the whole truth. In a recent interview, Sara recalled travelling on a local train in Mumbai and lying to her mother about it. Amrita Singh later found out — and was upset, especially because a local train accident had occurred around the same time.

During a conversation with RJ Sukriti on BookMyShow Unscripted, Sara revealed that Amrita got to know about her lie through a journalist’s phone call. When asked about travelling in a local train, Sara shared, “I actually have. I lied to my mom about it though. This was years ago. She didn’t know that I was on a local train, so I pretended I was at a neighbour’s house. A journalist actually called her and told her that I am so proud of the way you have brought up your daughter. I have a photo of her on a local train, can I print it?”

The actor added, “She was really upset because I was young and there had just been an accident on the local train. She told me to be careful and just basically not lie about my location, more than anything else. So yeah, that was not fun.”

In an interview with Hindustan Times earlier, Sara Ali Khan had opened up about coming to terms with the negativity on social media and how it pinches her to see her mother being affected. Sara said, “I can fully understand that this is some nameless, frustrated person. But maa toh maa hoti hai. That’s the only thing that really gets to me. If I could block her social media, I wouldn’t give a damn!”

She continued, “She reads and pretends there is nothing. It’s like the elephant in the room we don’t address. But, I know she has read something sad. She doesn’t address it, but I can see it on her face. Mujhe acha nahi lagta (I don’t feel good).”

On the work front, Sara Ali Khan’s Metro…In Dino hit theatres on July 4.
