As the film Coolie nears its release, promotions are in full swing, with the makers working hard to build buzz around this star-studded project. Among the cast is Shruti Haasan, who, despite belonging to a film family, found herself sharing screen space with some of the biggest names in cinema, an experience that could easily feel overwhelming. Reflecting on her time working on the film, Shruti opened up about what it was like to collaborate with a legend like Rajinikanth, noting that even though she comes from Tamil cinema royalty, it doesn’t necessarily mean she knew the megastar personally.

While appearing on the BeerBiceps podcast, Shruti talked about many things ranging from her career, relationships, music and much more. She also talked about her upcoming film Coolie and shared the experience of working with someone like Rajinikanth. She said, “My father (Kamal Haasan) and he are like two pillars and faces of Tamil cinema. I always knew him through the lens of the public, and people for some reason thought that I would have grown up around him. I knew him as the superstar, and I knew him from my dad’s lens, but it was very interesting to know him through the filming process.”

Shruti Haasan then gave the fans a glimpse into the mindset of the superstar and explained how his personality is very layered and full of surprises. “He is a unique mix of characteristics, and he is shrewd and sharp. But he is also very warm, and I even told him that he was very cool to talk to. He is very nice and easy to converse with; he doesn’t carry the gravitas with him. He always brings good energy with him on the set, and everyone is happy to work with him.”

Shruti added that her generation of stars and anyone who has come after don’t compare to the previous ones, as she stated, “Amitabh Bachchan sir, my father and Rajini sir are just different souls, and they don’t make them like that anymore.”

Coolie will start its theatrical run on August 14, and the cast of the film also includes Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Sathyaraj, with Pooja Hegde making a special appearance for the song “Monica”.
