Actor Ram Kapoor recently garnered significant attention for shedding about 55 kgs in 18 months. However, his peak years in television were at a time when he was approximately 140 kgs. In a recent interview, Ram acknowledged that it is very difficult for actors in today’s age to achieve that level of success while being overweight. However, he pointed to one colleague, Smriti Irani, as an example of someone who defied this, achieving greater success than him despite her weight. While speaking to Humans of Bombay, Ram said, “She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me.” He added, “It is just that she left earlier.”

‘Smriti Irani allowed herself to become bigger’
Ram Kapoor shared that there was a huge difference in the appearance of Smriti Irani who joined the show in 2000 and the person who she became at the end of the show in 2008. The actor explained, “When she started Kyunki Saas and when she ended, she was huge. Her logic was now I have played a character who has taken so many leaps. ‘Now I am playing a grandmother.’ So you see her in the first year of Kyunki to last year, you will notice that she is as big as I am. We were equally successful.”
He added, “I have even spoken to her about this. She was just staying true to her character. When she entered the series, she played just a wife, then she became a mother, then the show took several leaps in eight years of its run. She allowed herself to become bigger. If she would have continued in television, she would have probably much bigger than me. She left because she joined politics and she is doing great.”

In the same interview, the actor however acknowledged, “Now, if a guy my size will want to make it big, it will be difficult. But if we talk about opposite gender, Smriti did achieve success despite all that weight.”
Smriti Irani is all set to make her acting comeback with the sequel of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The show is expected to premiere in July.
