Kalyani Chawla, who appeared in the latest season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, wrote a post in remembrance of the late Sunjay Kapur. The businessman died recently in a freak accident. He went into cardiac arrest after accidentally swallowing a bee while playing polo in England. Sunjay was earlier married to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, with whom he has two children. He has two more children with wife Priya Sachdev. In her post, Kalyani wrote that Sunjay’s quest for a long life was ‘ironic’, as he died before his time. According to her, he wanted to live till the age of 100 for his younger son.
Sharing a carousel of their pictures together, she wrote, “Sunjay and my friendship over three decades now, have been on so many terms. One of his main grouse was me posting so much on Instagram. Though so happy to pose with that typical expression. Some of these images are from his posts, the captions say it all. He was someone I could rely on even if I didn’t speak to him for weeks. From driving through torrential rain when he had six hours in Delhi in between his travels, to come calm a distraught me, monitoring me long distance or give me guidance with my business or to endlessly lecture me about my questionable choices, he was insufferable at times and we bickered like siblings. He supported every venture of mine be it with my Art or Rezon, spurring me on always proud of my serial entrepreneurship.”
She continued, “His love for Tahira was unequivocal. The most fun person for every generation. Sunjay’s dedication and commitment to whatever he took on was borderline obsessive and competitive. He had to be the best in whatever he took on. Be it polo or taking on his father’s mantle of the business.”
Kalyani continued, “His marriage to Priya, a strong willed woman of great intelligence, whose opinion and advise ruled his life. Sunjay loved public speaking and was excellent at it. But no matter the subject, Priya’s name was mentioned in every other sentence. His priority was his wife and children. His pursuance of longevity of his life span is now ironic and cruel as he told me how he had to be the fittest father for little Azarius and live a 100 years minimum.”
This was Sunjay’s third marriage — he was previously married to stylist Nandita Mehtani and Karisma. Priya was previously married to restaurateur Vikram Chatwal.
Expressing her admiration for Sunjay, she concluded, “I was there with Tahira watching him play his first ever polo match in wonderment of knowing it’s been less than a year he started this very difficult sport and learnt riding to begin with. How quick and easily he went off riding into the sunset, doing something he loved the most… leaving behind a legacy of love respect and hero worship. I am so so fortunate to have had him as part of my life. So lucky to call him family, the third sister. So lucky to have his love support and unflinching loyalty. My James Bond has left me and everyone whose life he touched even if briefly, shaken, stirred and gutted. @priyaskapur ♥️.”

In an interview conducted just a few months before his death, Sunjay had said that he’d put together a 10-year plan, having stepped away from a central role in his family’s Sona Comstar business. “When I drew up my 10-year plan, I actually wrote down the broad strokes of work-related and non-work related, foundation-related… I flushed out 2025 to define what I will do. I’m not the sort of person who can sit around without a packed schedule. It’s a great luxury to be the master of your own time,” He said on the Indian Silicon Valley podcast.”
