Superman box office collection day 2: James Gunn’s attempt to reboot DC with David Corenswet’s Superman is proving to be a smart move. According to Deadline, Superman made $56.5 million in North America and another $40 million from international markets across 78 countries. In India, the film’s entry has caused a serious dent in the box office performance of domestic releases like the star-studded Kannappa and Rajkummar Rao’s gangster drama Maalik.
Superman’s global box office collection on day 2
According to estimates, Superman is expected to cross $210 million globally by the end of Sunday, riding high on hype and positive reviews. Variety reports that the film has already scored the second-biggest global opening of the year, behind A Minecraft Movie ($57.11 million) and just ahead of Lilo & Stitch ($55.94 million). On the international front, the film opened in UK at $3.6 million on Friday, grabbing a 66% market share. Asia, though, was soft. Korea continues to be a downer for the movie, and no one expected Clark Kent to click in China either, where Superman made just $2.4 million by Friday, with a final tally likely hovering around $11 million. Brazil, Australia, and France held steady, each collecting $2.5 and $3 million. Spain turned out to be stronger than expected with a million-dollar debut, and Japan managed $781K, despite heavy buzz around the new Demon Slayer. Mexico, meanwhile, clocked in the highest at $3.8 million.

On its first day in India, Superman earned Rs 8 crore, making it the third-biggest DC debut in the country. Day 2 added around Rs 9 crore, taking the total till Saturday to Rs 17 crore.
On the other hand, Kannappa, a star-studded Telugu biggie featuring names like Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal, opened strong at Rs 9.35 crore but dropped like a stone. Week 2 saw a brutal 92% crash, and its lifetime net barely touched Rs 32.6 crore. One of the year’s biggest flops, it recovered just 16% of its estimated Rs 200 crore budget. Another domestic title, Maalik, starring Rajkummar Rao, earned Rs 3.75 crore on Day 1 and Rs 5.25 crore on Day 2, still trailing Superman. Meanwhile, F1: The Movie is defying expectations. The original Hollywood title has raked in Rs 75 crore in 15 days and looks set to join the Rs 100 crore club, a rare feat, with only Oppenheimer and Avatar ahead of it. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey’s film is struggling to even touch the Rs 1 crore mark. It made just Rs 43 lakh on its second day, taking the two-day total to a mere Rs 73 lakh.
