The Great Indian Kapil Show recently returned with its third season on Netflix, and so far, the show has had three episodes. This season opened up with Salman Khan promoting his film Sikandar. The next episode featured the cast of the Hindi film Metro In Dino, and the latest episode featured cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Rishabh Pant, Yuzvendra Chahal, among others. While every episode of the show has always featured major celebrities, the rating seems to be consistently declining.
This year, The Great Indian Kapil Show opened on the 7th spot of the ‘Global Top 10 Non-English Shows’. The opening episode of the third season, featuring Salman Khan, got 1.6 million views, and 1.9 million hours viewed. The numbers of views have nothing to do with the number of viewers. As per Netflix, the views are calculated by “total hours viewed divided by runtime.” In comparison, the premiere episode of the second season, featuring Alia Bhatt, got the eighth spot on the list and had 1.2 million views and generated 1.4 million viewing hours. However, the opening episode of the first season, featuring Ranbir Kapoor opened with 2.4 million views.
Since the first episode of this season, the numbers have been in decline. After getting 1.6 million views for the first episode in the first week, the second episode featuring the cast of Metro In Dino dropped on Netflix. As per the viewership data released by Netflix, they claimed that the number of views in the second week was 2 million, which is just 400,000 more than the first week. However, the 2 million views were the cumulative views for the first two episodes in the second week of the show. They did not declare the number of views that the second episode received independently.
The third episode, featuring the cricketers, saw a further decrease in the number of views. The episode opened at the seventh spot on the ‘Global Top 10 Non-English Shows’. In its third week, the show could only gather 1.2 million views, which was the cumulative number of the views received by all three episodes combined in that week.
Despite the constant decrease in its views, this continues to be the only Indian show in the ‘Global Top 10 Non-English Shows’. The next episode of the season will feature actors Jaideep Ahlawat, Vijay Varma, Pratik Gandhi, Jitendra Kumar.
The Great Indian Kapil Show started in 2024, and has had two seasons of 13 episodes each, so far.
