Actor Vikrant Massey once made Rs 35 lakh per month from his television assignments but the actor gave it all up because he wanted to pursue a career in films. In a recent interview, Vikrant shared that at one point, he decided to present himself in the same way as his contemporaries. He started wearing rental designer clothes to get photographed in, attended parties, just so he would get noticed as he felt like this was the way to find credible work. He shared that he would spend Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 on a single set of clothes which shocked his wife as this was their monthly expense budget.

Talking to Rhea Chakraborty on her YouTube channel, Vikrant was asked about actors choosing to opt for PR tactics to get noticed and he admitted, that he too, tried this path for a few months. “Not that I didn’t try, I did try it for a good 4-5 months. I started attending parties, I started renting out clothes, they are so expensive. It costs so much money, to wear those clothes just once,” he said.

“My wife, who was my girlfriend then, she would be like, ‘Why? Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 a day, per event? You are wearing a designer’s costume for 4-5 hours. That’s our expense for an entire month’,” he recalled his wife Sheetal’s words.

“But I tried. I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was. I didn’t feel like myself. Like going to these parties, wearing those ultra expensive clothes, I was so conscious. Like the whole time, I would be like, ‘I hope this doesn’t get dirty because I have to return these clothes, they belong to a big designer’,” he shared and added that he realised that hobnobbing with the elite wasn’t his style and he found his own way. “Slowly and steadily, when I realised that I am not feeling like myself, I took a stand and I spoke to people who sort of encouraged me because it didn’t work for me. It suits other people. So it’s not like I am right and they are wrong, that thing was wrong for me,” he said.

Vikrant is currently looking forward to Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, also starring Shanaya Kapoor. The film releases on July 11.
